you are whatever a moon has always meant

I had a really bad day yesterday.  Probably the worst day I’ve had  in a long time.  Nothing terrible happened, it was just the convergence of a number of stressful things that finally got to me (I think), and I spent the day worried and upset but didn’t really know how to say it out loud.  Even after I had a few hours to myself early in the day I was still not really myself, and there was grumpiness and finally tears.  And at the end of that bad day, my husband wrapped his arms around me and while I was weeping because I felt terrible that I hadn’t been a great wife or mom or anything that day he told me he was worried about me, and that he loved me.  Even when I’m at my worst he is the best.  And that’s why I can’t possibly tell him how much he means to me, that the Valentine’s Day card I got him doesn’t come close to expressing what I wanted to express today.  So instead, I will share the poem that was read at our wedding, a poem I’ve always loved and says exactly what I want to say to him, and hope he hears what I want him to know.  Now and always.

i carry your heart with me

ee cummings

i carry your heart with me(i carry it in
my heart)i am never without it(anywhere
i go you go,my dear; and whatever is done
by only me is your doing,my darling)
i fear
no fate(for you are my fate,my sweet)i want
no world(for beautiful you are my world,my true)
and it’s you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you

here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life;which grows
higher than the soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that’s keeping the stars apart

i carry your heart(i carry it in my heart)

anywhere i go you go

  1. I know they’re second best but sending a bff hug too. Oddly enough, also had a tear yesterday over all the illness and the probably related breast feeding issues. Hope its all better soon. And that your hair looks awesome 🙂
